Treehouse

I wanted to live in a treehouse
Seemed like a mighty fine place to live for me
I wanted to drink my soup from the bowl and use no spoon
But my folks they just wouldn't let me be
I wondered about the blueness of the ocean
and why the lawn don't die when you cut the grass
I wondered and asked my teachers many of these things
but she said I had to wait for science class
And I wondered why those friends of mine didn't like the poor man's boy
His worn out shirt and shoes were fine with me
It made me cry to think that he might never be my friend
It seemed the consent of others was the key to my happiness
I'm older now, I've got my own opinions
based on many things that went before
and I won't say that the way I feel is the way it's got to be
but I can't step and fetch it anymore
So come visit me in my very special treehouse
If you want to use a spoon I'll find you one
and even if all the neighbors think we're crazy through and through
I'm sure that we can still have our own fun
Even if the whole world thinks we're crazy through and through
come on up
